Description
Okay, so while I titled this image "River of Grass," this is not the type of scene that got the Florida Everglades that nickname. That nickname, I believe, refers to the sawgrass prairies. This photograph is from the another major ecosystem in the Everglades, the cypress forest (specifically, this photograph is from Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve). The submerged plants are not a type of grass, but are instead from either the Hydrilla or Hygrophila genus, I believe. At first, nothing about the scene caught my eye. But as the clouds passed and the sunlight danced around, I loved the way the plants sparkled under the water. I've tried to capture that here.
